WoW Warlock Guide – The Essentials
This WoW warlock guide will illustrate to everyone the general pros and cons of creating a warlock. The warlock is focused on damage over time spells, shadow bolts, and commanding demons. They’re master necromancers that deal in misery and torment. Though they are unable to stand toe to toe in up close fighting, they more than make up for that by hurling damaging spells from a safe distance.
A fair amount of a warlock’s spells use soul shards which have to be retrieved from fallen mobs. Warlocks are arguably the fastest class to level with particularly when going the solo route. In groups, warlocks are often the biggest DPS dealers.
The warlock class is a choice that is only available to the Blood Elf, Gnome, Human, Orc, and Undead races. Warlocks may only wear cloth armor, like the other caster character types. As for weapons, they are restricted to wands, staves, swords and daggers.
There are several demonic minions a warlock can summon including the Felguard, Doomguard, Infernal, Felhunter, Succubus, Voidwalker, and Imp. Each minion possesses unique advantages that you can exploit.
Warlocks primarily use DoT’s (damage over time) and direct damage (DD) spells, but they also have many utility spells which can be handy such as conjuring Soul Stones. They are even able to conjure up some useful items and resurrect fallen players by using soul shards. They are able to self heal via life tap and/or drain life They also have some crowd control spells like fear and howl of terror. Since warlocks are able to get their mounts via quests, they save lots of gold that most other characters have to pay.
The Affliction talent tree uses talents that are designed to improve the warlock’s drains, curses, and DoT’s. This works best for farming, boss killing, and raiding. Affliction is arguably the best specialization for speed leveling.
Demonology talents are intended to make summoned demonic minions stronger and more effective, as well as enhancing conjuring spells and providing you other passive bonuses. Demonology is a great spec for survivability, PvP and leveling. This talent tree can be used during lower levels to make up for a lack of decent spell damage equipment.
Destruction talents concentrate on improving most fire and shadow spells thereby making your warlock a high powered direct damage dealer. For Destruction, it’s all about the high DPS and big critical hits. This spec is cumbersome to use at lower levels and is more often used once players get to higher levels. Although you can do massive damage, there are a handful of downsides to this specialization that need to be considered. You’ll require a bunch of soul shards, you will go through mana really quickly, and playing solo will be very hard. Though on the flip side, it can be really fun.
